21st Night - Irish Whiskey Cocktail

September is a transition month with summer ending and cooler days entering the mix. As a shout out to one of the month's most famous days, we created the 21st Night cocktail as a fun shout out to the hit song "September" from 70's superband Earth, Wind, and Fire. This cocktail serves as the perfect bridge between seasons.
Our 21st Night cocktail combines ingredients that represent the three classical elements that make up the band's name. The chosen Irish whiskey should have earthy notes. We use the Ardara single malt, a 46% abv "all grain in" peated expression from Donegal that captures the mossy, vegetal, flavors for Earth. Adding a cool mint syrup captures the windy breeze element. For fire, we punctuate the drink with a lit cinnamon stick.

- IWSA Cocktail Shaker

Classic Rocks Glass
INGREDIENTS
- 2 oz Ardara Single Malt
- 0.75 oz Cool Mint Syrup
- 0.5 oz Lemon juice (squeezed)
- Cinnamon stick
INSTRUCTIONS
- Combine all ingredients except cinnamon stick with ice in shaker

Shake for 10-15 seconds
- Strain into glass with new ice
- Light a cinnamon stick to add complentary oils and smoky fire effect

An alternate Irish Whiskey to capture the earthy element is Connemara (ideally the peated expression provides the mossy, grassy flavor notes rather than the medicial, iodine, or ashy smoke characteristics). Cool mint syrup can be purchased at liquor stores pre-made or you can make your own at home with a simple recipe.
