IWSA Mountjoy - Irish Whiskey Cocktail

Posted by Irish Whiskey USA on

The IWSA Mountjoy is a celebration of Irish and French cultures by way of New Orleans through Dublin. Based on the classic Vieux Carré cocktail from New Orleans, the Mountjoy offers an Irish twist.

The original Vieux Carré originated in New Orleans in the 1930's. The cocktail combines American rye and French brandy and liqueur with some sweet Italian vermouth added to the mix. Vieux Carré means 'old square' in French and was a nod to the city's French Quarter. Our IWSA version uses Irish rye and French cognac finished Irish whiskey. The name Mountjoy refers to the Georgian Square in Dublin located north of the river Liffey. One of the five Georgian Squares in Dublin, Mountjoy Square is the only one that is an actual square shape. The garden park square is surrounded on all sides by Georgian houses with their traditional colorful doors.
