Jameson Triple Triple Chestnut
Posted by Irish Whiskey USA on
Jameson Original blend is the biggest selling Irish Whiskey in the world. The popular brand is a blend of single pot still and grain aged in bourbon and sherry casks. The Jameson range has varied over the years with now discontinued 12yr and Gold varieties replaced with Black Barrel and beer finished expressions. In the last few years the range has expanded with the release of several 3 cask aged offerings under the Triple Triple moniker.
The Triple Triple range of Jameson blends consists of the traditional bourbon/sherry maturation with a third cask finishing. The first release utilized a Malaga wine as the third cask and was made available through Ireland travel retail in 2019. At the beginning of 2025, the Chestnut version was released across the USA in retail stores. A third expression with Marsala as the third cask rounds out the current Triple Triple range.
Triple Triple refers to the whiskey being distilled three times and matured in three different cask types. The Triple Triple Chestnut blend is bottled at 40% abv. This is not the first time Midleton Distillery has utilized this wood type. In 2017, Midleton released the Method and Madness Single Pot Still finished in French chestnut casks. For the Triple Triple, the sweet chestnut casks add notes of toffee, cacao and toasted almonds to the blend.
OFFICIAL TASTING NOTES
Nose:
Opens with rich aromas of toffee fudge, vanilla, and hazelnut chocolate. Subtle orchard fruit notes of sweet pear and green apple softly linger in the background while the chestnut wood influence continues to build, accentuating the indulgent tones of dark chocolate and toasted almond.
Taste:
Luscious and textured with notes of creamy fudge and vanilla, while mild nutty undertones and gentle wood spices slowly build over time adding further layers of flavour, complementing the orchard fruits and toasted wood.
Fans of original Jameson should definitely check this one out. The chestnut cask brings a new element to the experience. Similar weight and mouthfeel as regular Jameson with a candied sweetness on the nose. Better finish than regular Jameson with lingering mild spice. This fits into the category of everyday drinker whiskey in the low abv % range. The chestnut casks bring a unique characteristic not present in those other standard blends. Those that have tried chestnut cask single pot stills from Teeling and Method & Madness know how great this wood type is for Irish whiskey. The Jameson Triple Triple Chestnut now allows you to experience it an affordable single pot still blend for the first time. Widely available wherever Jameson is sold, pick up a bottle to see for yourself.
