Foxes Bow - May 2025 Irish Whiskey Review

Posted by Irish Whiskey USA on

Foxes Bow started in late 2021 as an independent bottler. The brand is named for the little street in Limerick between William and Thomas streets. The street has an unusual distinction of different spellings all within meters of one another (and Google maps): Foxes, Foxe's, Foxs, and Fox's.  You can read more about the history of the location and name here

Foxes Bow launched in the USA in 2023, starting with Texas. The brand's initial release was a 43% abv blend sourced from Great Northern Distillery with no caramel color added. The non-age statement blend is non-chill filtered and aged in bourbon casks before finishing in oloroso sherry and rye casks. A second expression in the range was released in Texas for Spec's retailers which is rum finished.

Foxes Bow Original: Official Tasting Notes

Nose: Aromatic floral notes leading into a sweet vanilla and rounded off by toasted wood

Taste: Robust but deliciously balanced. Beginning with a burst of fruity sherry flavours, followed by a wave of spice and perfectly finished with velvety vanilla sweetness

Finish: The satisfying, long finish with an infusion of lingering sweet fruit and vanilla will have you coming back for more.

This is a solid blended Irish whiskey. A step above many of the standard 40% abv offerings. The triple cask maturation provides a nice balance of flavors with the rye influence an added bonus over traditional bourbon/sherry expressions. The price is very reasonable at less than $35. Regardless of how it is spelled, it is brand worth remembering.
