Powers John's Lane Cask Strength Release

Posted by Irish Whiskey USA on

FINALLY. For the longest time, Powers Irish Whiskey fans have held out hope for a cask strength version of this lovely single pot still from Midleton Distillery. Previously limited to single cask releases, the wait is over as Powers John's Lane Cask Strength will become a permanent part of the range.

The launch event was a joint celebration at the iconic Palace Bar in Dublin to honor their 200 years in business. For the celebration, 200 bottles were made with special Palace Bar labels. The Powers John's Lane 12 year Cask Strength launch is 12 years since the release of the original 46% abv version. The original version re-established the popularity of the single pot still category upon its release, expanding the category from existing stalwarts Redbreast 12yr and Green Spot. Powers John's Lane 12yr is named for the former Dublin distillery which closed 50 years ago. Remnants of the old distillery still reside at John's Lane and can be viewed within the now National College of Art and Design. Read more about this in our previous blog post.

The new whiskey will be available exclusively at Palace Bar through the month of September until general release of Batch 1 in October.

This will be an annual release. The Batch 1 2023 was bottled at 57.8% abv.

The new annual release from Irish Distillers-owned Powers will be a permanent addition to the John's Lane whiskey range

05 SEPTEMBER 2023

Irish whiskey brand Powers has launched a cask-strength version of its John's Lane whiskey.

Launched 12 years after the original John's Lane expression, Powers John's Lane Cask Strength is a 12-year-old whiskey that will join the core Powers range as an annual release. The 2023 release has been bottled at 57.8% ABV.

Named for a historic, now-closed distillery in the heart of Dublin, Powers John's Lane whiskey is produced by Irish Distillers at the Midleton Distillery in Co. Cork.

Powers distiller Eric Ryan said: “A brand of firsts, Powers whiskey continually challenged the old way of doing things and advocated careful experimentation throughout the years. With a rich heritage that goes back to its establishment in 1791, John's Lane Distillery’s well-earned reputation is brought back to centre stage with the launch of this new permanent cask-strength Powers expression.”

Powers John’s Lane Cask Strength will be available exclusively at the Palace Bar in Dublin until its general release on 2 October, when it will be available in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Dublin Airport, and online at midletondistillerycollection.com (RRP €90).
